Follow-Up/Planning Meeting
At this group meeting, hosted at PARC (Parkdale, Toronto Ontario), we sat together to acknowledge the long and often invisible history in our community related to social service provision, and those who paved the way for us to do our work. We started to envision some of the things we might focus on as part of our network: documenting and researching current concerns, identifying avenues for resource sharing, creating a public-facing website and directory of practitioners and programs. Two of the core issues discussed were youth – family reunification and counseling needs of Filipino community members and clients.

Networking Event during CASWE-ACFTS conference [Toronto ON]
Coinciding with the annual CASWE-ACFTS conference at Ryerson University, we hosted a Networking event at OISE/University of Toronto to gather Toronto-based and visiting Filipino/a/x social work, social service, and community work practitioners, students, and community organizers. With funding from University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work, we were able to cater this event with ample Filipino food. We also facilitated small group discussions in various practice areas, which led to the network’s early development specific to ongoing and emerging issues identified at this event.
