Practitioner Roundtable: Addressing Anti-Black Racism [online]

This virtual practitioner roundtable gathered Filipino/a/x social service workers to discuss strategies, perspectives, and learnings from agency/institutional/community work addressing Anti-Black Racism. We acknowledge many of our members and their organizations have been committed to and active with both immediate and long-standing initiatives, while others are currently self-educating and may be looking for support.

We welcomed all network members from across the country for this peer sharing and collective learning. During this event, we invited participants to critically examine their practice with an anti-racist lens, with a specific emphasis on acknowledging, recognizing, and addressing anti-Black racism. It is our intention that this roundtable provided the opportunity to share tools, skills and strategies, and knowledge to integrate in practice.

Confirmed speakers were, Benjamin Bongolan, The 519 (Toronto ON); Monica Batac, McGill School of Social Work, CASWE-ACFTS Student Committee and Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Issues Caucus; Zenee Maceda, Labour Advocate/Activist; Martha Ocampo, Anti-Racism Consultant; Marichu Antonio; Executive Director; ActionDignity; and Jovie Galit from Pinay Collection.

Mentoring Meet & Greet [Toronto ON]

We met at the Centre for Social Innovation (720 Bathurst St) for a salo salo style networking event. This activity brought together mentors from varying social service sectors to connect with mentees-students, new graduates, newcomers, inquiring minds; to share experiences, tips, anything under the sun! We were greeted by visitors, Johsa Manzanilla from Winnipeg MB, in town for a conference, and Dr. Charlene Ronquillo (Assistant Professor in Nursing, Ryerson University). This event was organized by Zenia Castanos and Veronica Javier.
